 It’s true, letterpress is one of the most expensive printing techniques, but for good reason.  Good letterpress printers are artisans and use high quality inks and papers.  The printers themselves, are often costly antiques (Lilikoi’s press is 120 years old), that are hand operated (read: very time consuming to use).  Items printed on letterpress have textured lettering / design due to the press actually making an imprint in the paper - creating a raised effect on the back side.    While letterpress is one of the more costly methods of printing, it can be affordable.   To keep your costs down:

*Print using only one color

*Reduce the number of pieces printed with letterpress – consider having your main invitation printed with letterpress and having the other pieces printed with a less expensive printing method (ex. offset printing).

*Use a pre-set design.  As type plates have to be custom made for each new design/lettering, using a pre-set design reduces the need to make a new type plate, hence the costs are reduced.  Lilikoi has some gorgeous pre-set designs:
