Recycled Plantable wedding invitations

Earth “Month” Feature – Recycled Plantable Wedding Invitations

By: Rachel | Posted on: April 2nd, 2012

Earth Day isn’t until April 22nd, but as per usual, Encore Bridal will be celebrating all month long.  Expect tips this month on how engaged couples can give back, show love to, and “save” this beautiful planet of ours.

We recently discovered an online stationery shop,  Forever Fiances.  What we absolutely love about them is that they offer Save The Date cards and invitations made of 100% recycled plantable materials.  Send your guests a card and they can grow wildflowers and herbs (like oregano and thyme).

They have several designs to choose from, or you can send them your own custom design and they will print it for you on their papers.  As a bonus their paper is made in the USA, 100% recycled,  and created with carbon neutral energy (wind energy!)   Not only is Forever Fiances eco-friendly, but they also give 1% of its revenues to several non-profit organizations supporting environmental causes, like charitywater.org.  Here are some of our favorites from their collection…

Introducing Lilikoi Designs

By: julie | Posted on: March 30th, 2010

I was so pleased to have Andria from Lilikoi designs as our Sunday Style Salon special guest this past Sunday.  Lilikoi Design & Letterpress is a custom design and letterpress printing studio with a true love for working with blushing brides and handsome grooms on their wedding invitations and day of printed materials.   Here is a peak at the collection presented on Sunday:

It’s true, letterpress is one of the most expensive printing techniques, but for good reason.  Good letterpress printers are artisans and use high quality inks and papers.  The printers themselves, are often costly antiques (Lilikoi’s press is 120 years old), that are hand operated (read: very time consuming to use).  Items printed on letterpress have textured lettering / design due to the press actually making an imprint in the paper - creating a raised effect on the back side.    While letterpress is one of the more costly methods of printing, it can be affordable.   To keep your costs down:

*Print using only one color

*Reduce the number of pieces printed with letterpress – consider having your main invitation printed with letterpress and having the other pieces printed with a less expensive printing method (ex. offset printing).

*Use a pre-set design.  As type plates have to be custom made for each new design/lettering, using a pre-set design reduces the need to make a new type plate, hence the costs are reduced.  Lilikoi has some gorgeous pre-set designs:

Lilikoi Designs "Tropical Getaway"

Note:  Andria from Lilikoi hand mixes the inks to perfectly match your wedding colors.

Lilikoi Designs "Pearl Suite"

Wedding Invitations and Sashes by White Aisle

By: julie | Posted on: February 14th, 2008

I found this fantastic site with AMAZING invitations – White Aisle. My heart started beating faster when I saw them they are so beautiful.  After catching my breath, I delved further into their site and saw these beautiful silk sashes on the “Giving Back” page.

The silk dress sashes are each handmade in Phnom Penh, Cambodia by one of the many young women trying to move their lives forward after being victims of sex trafficking. 100% of the profit for these sashes will go back to the local day center they work with. It will pay the salaries of these girls, and expand the facility to include full time housing so that they no longer have to go to the brothels in the evenings. This program not only provides them with income, but also a new skill and a feeling of empowerment. It’s a first step out of what is an unimaginable life for most of us.

The fabric used is local hand loomed Khmer (Cambodian) silk. They come in 10 different colors and swatches are free of charge. Only $20 each!
